Meet Luke

Cane Corso Breeder Pittsburgh, PA

Let me start by introducing myself.  My name is Luke Lock and I’ve been a police officer for 24+ years as of 2023.  My brother Dave has been a K-9 handler and trainer with the Pennsylvania State Police for 18 years and is the owner and founder of Proactive Dog Training LLC in Harrisburg PA.

History

The Cane Corso boasts a storied history rooted in ancient times, tracing its lineage to the Molossian war dogs utilized by the Greeks and Romans. These formidable canines played integral roles in warfare, showcasing strength and intelligence. Following the decline of the Roman Empire, the breed's numbers dwindled, finding refuge in the rural regions of southern Italy. Evolving into a working dog, the Cane Corso served as a loyal guardian on farms, protecting property and livestock. However, by the 20th century, the breed faced near extinction as societal shifts diminished the demand for working dogs. In a remarkable resurgence during the 1970s, dedicated breeders in Italy worked to revive the Cane Corso, leading to its official recognition by the Italian Kennel Club in 1994. This revival paved the way for international recognition, with the American Kennel Club acknowledging the breed in 2010. Today, the Cane Corso stands as a symbol of historical resilience and adaptability, excelling not only as a guardian and protector but also as a cherished companion known for its muscular physique, intelligence, and gentle demeanor with its family.
